On Saturday, October 23, 2021, students from CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program will perform the work of guest artist/dance makers from New York City, Dallas, Massachusetts and Hartford in this year’s Choreographers’ Showcase.
Now in its 19th year, Choreographers’ Showcase is a rare opportunity for high school dancers to learn and perform with critically acclaimed choreographers. This showcase brings world- renowned choreographers and their most recent works to a beautiful venue at the Learning Corridor's Theater of the Performing Arts, in Hartford.
This year, the Academy welcomes the following featured choreographers:
Carter Alexander, Artist in Residence at Southern Methodist University (SMU) and a former dancer with the Hartford Ballet of Dallas
Massachusetts based artist, Deborah Goffe, Associate Professor of Dance at Hampshire College and Artistic Director of Scapegoat Garden
Academy Alumna and Artistic Director of Studio 860, Jolet Creary
Colby Connelly, Academy Alumna and currently a senior with the Hartt School Dance Division
Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Director, and former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Kim Stroud
The Academy is thrilled to present a legendary work of modern dance in this year’s program. Choreographer Martha Graham, is one of the most influential choreographers in the history of dance, and the Academy is one of a handful of high schools to have the honor of performing works from her repertory. This year Academy Director, Kim Stroud, has restaged Steps in the Street, an Excerpt from Chronicle (1936) for our dancers.
The showcase is one night only.
